When you think of great beaches and beach cities, places like Virginia Beach, Waikiki, Daytona Beach, Myrtle Beach and Malibu quickly come to mind. Concierge.com went searching for smaller gems that may be a bit closer to home and thus less expensive to get to. With the exception of Santa Cruz, you probably never heard of any of these unless you share a state with one of them.

Sure, Saugatuck may not have the glamour of Myrtle Beach, but it’s just a 3 hour drive from Detroit, Chicago, Indianapolis and Milwaukee making it a more obvious choice for a daytrip. And with the gas crisis, families are looking for such daytrips.
