Domainers Can Take Advantage Of Astronomy Explosion
I know that every year something “amazing” happens in Astronomy; one planet is in conjunction with another for the first time in 200 years; or a shuttle will deliver a Buzz Lightyear to the International Space Station (ISS); or a comet is going to fly 30 light years from earth. Big deal.
2009 is shaping up to be different. 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy.
I’m sure everyone has read a story or two about the Phoenix landing on Mars. Landing on Mars is always news, but this time around everyone seems to be quite excited. And domainers can take advantage of it.
2008
- October 12th - Richard Garriott will accompany the Expedition crew on a mission to the ISS (His father was an astronaut!). Who is Richard Garriott you say? Well, none other than Lord British. He isn’t the first space tourist, but perhaps the most popular (among the younger folk).
2009
- February - The search for planets orbiting other stars begins with the launching of the Kepler Mission.
- March 11th - Space Shuttle Endeaver will launch and complete the Japanese Experiment Module aboard the ISS. May be the longest shuttle flight ever.
- April 2nd - 100 Hours of Astronomy. A global event to raise interest in Astronomy.
- July 16th - Space Shuttle Atlantis launches on its mission to deliver Donatello, which ultimately will expand the station crew from 3 to 6 astronauts.
- July 22nd - Total solar eclipse. So what? Well, it will be the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century.
- September 29th - MESSENGER, launched in 2004, will make it’s final flyby of Mercury at a slow speed. It will ultimately enter Mercury’s orbit in 2011. It will give us unprecedented pictures of the planet.
- October - Space Shuttle Endeaver will launch and deliver Node 3 to the ISS. Node 3 will be the most advanced life support system ever flown in space.
- The SpaceX Dragon will make it’s first launch.
- Virgin Galactic, owned by Richard Branson, plans to launch it’s first space tourism shuttle by the end of the year.
2010
- January 15th - Annular solar eclipse. This will be the longest of the 21st century.
- April - The ISS will be officially completed.
- July 9th - Endeaver will launch, marking the final flight and closing of the 40 year old Space Shuttle Program.
- Project Constellation is the next phase of America’s space exploration.
Astronomy is about to explode. People are getting excited again. And there is plenty of time to ‘get in.’

I think you are right about Astronomy, I recently registered SpaceTrotters.com just for the heck of it. I also hear the British Billionaire, Charles Bronson, would soon be operating some space shuttle vacations for those who can afford it. …. I haven’t done anything on that domain yet. I might put some blog or info about space expeditions, NASA buffs, and stuff like that
Yea, Richard Branson owns Virgin Galactic, a space tourism company. Microsoft is actually helping him. They believe they can get a flight up by the end of 2009. I should add that to the post, thanks! Good luck with SpaceTrotters.com.
Nice post - Space Travel is the way to go.
I took the following domain names a while back let’s see what the future hold’s
BeyondSpaceTravel.com
SpaceChillout.com
SpaceGetaway.info
SpaceHoliday.net
Thanks. I particularly like SpaceGetaway.
