Your Macs, iPods And iPhones Are Now Being Targeted
11 posts on the front page of Domaining.com are reporting the sale of Property.com.
Not here! I have a Mac trend instead!
One of the main draws for Macs is the sense of security that you have in that malware is designed for Windows. Combine that with the halo effect (iPod, iPhone) and you have about 8% of computer users on macs.
And they’re just going on with their malware-free happy lives.
Not so fast.
You see, these people who were fed up with the viruses and spyware on their PCs moved on to Macs. Only… it was their OWN computing habits that got them the malware. It was their downloading of p0rn and pirated software. It was their not having a firewall or anti-virus software. It was their not running anti-malware or anti-spyware software. It was their own fault for not taking preventative action and being reckless of the tubes.
Virus programmers realize this and are starting to target Macs because the users are easy victims. For example, a Mac trojan came out in June and is capable of doing everything a PC trojan can do, such as stealing passwords and opening firewalls. So are the Mac’s OS’s really more secure than Windows? Or is it that no one really paid attention until fairly recently?
So here we are in the third week of July and Apple STILL has not fixed the security issue.
But that’s not all! Your iPods and iPhones are vulnerable too! With the ever increasing popularity of these two gadgets, the probability of malware grows higher.
Don’t worry though, just visit your favorite Mac site that focuses on security issues like malware. Oh noes!! Where the hell are you going to find one?
There’s your opportunity.
With Macs being targeted and the vulnerabilities of the iPod and iPhone, now is the time to prepare for it. Sites will need to be built to provide Mac users with the proper downloads and content on how to protect themselves from malware.
You can build them yourself, or sell them some domain names.

Forbes Publishes Real Estate List, Geodomainers Find Mother Of All Affiliate Sites
Forbes has published its top 10 U.S. housing markets for investment. Such lists from sites of authority help you make an informed decision when buying domains, especially geodomains.
The article cites the U.S. as the top nation for international real estate investment. The increase is expected to be about 16% from last year; 16% of $230 billion is nothing to scoff at. Foreign investors, like those from Australia, are taking advantage of a low U.S. dollar and are pouring money into U.S. real estate markets.
The article also states that these investors aren’t necessarily focusing on houses or single apartments, but have bigger aspirations. They’re buying up entire office buildings and apartment buildings.
If you want to cover an outside-the-box real estate niche, build your site with foreign investors in mind. There are actually more revenue opportunities by doing this.
- Flights. These investors will need to fly to the U.S.
- Hotels. They will need to stay somewhere.
- Restaurants. They will need to eat somewhere.
- Learn English CDs/books. They may need to brush up or learn it all together.
Adding flights, hotels and restaurants to real estate is the jackpot of all affiliate sites.
Without further ado, the top 10 U.S. housing markets for investment:
10- Orlando
9- Phoenix
8- Las Vegas
7- Chicago
6- Boston
5- Seattle
4- San Francisco
3- Los Angeles
2- Washington DC
1- New York
The Asian and European investors prefer the areas along the coasts, which is obviously reflected in the list itself.
This is a wonderful niche for geodomainers. Finding a good domain name may prove difficult, as these are major cities and the quality domain names are already snatched up. But when you add the foreign investment angle, you may have an easier time finding one that will suit your needs.

Luxurious Trend For The Geodomainer
There isn’t a huge market for buying or renting private islands. However, it is a highly targeted consumer. And when someone has that much money, the money doesn’t even matter.
Just about everyone has had the fantasy at some point in their lives of owning their own island. Celebrities such as Richard Branson, David Copperfield, Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio (and his eco-resort) have been in the news recently regarding their own private islands.
Of course, owning an island isn’t neccessarily new as celebrities and millionaires have been buying them for a long time. If you would like to buy one, then you should read this how-to guide. The growing trend is actually renting private islands (or parts of them) for weddings, secluded romantic getaways and parties.
A couple articles/sites worth researching:
- 10 private islands you can’t afford to live on
- Forbes most expensive islands of 2007
- Private Islands Online
- Private Islands Blog
Good luck finding any private island/resort affiliate plans; I couldn’t find any. The way to monetize this would be to list these islands with reviews, and sign up with a flight affiliate.

A Recap Of Past Articles Shows TrendDomaining.com Knows Its Trends
I suppose this is a ‘toot your own horn’ type of post. I want to use my accuracy to show why TrendDomaining.com is worth reading. This blog is just one month old, and judging trend predictions after just one month isn’t entirely ideal. But I think I hit a few bullseyes here. Below is a list of news articles from authority sites that strongly support my trend predictions AFTER I made them. Most of these articles are from strong authority sites.
Sites like BoingBoing, Mashable, Gizmodo, Digg, Wired and Rueters are considered mainstream news on the internet. The NY Times and LA Times are strong both in print and on the net. If something hits the front page on any of these sites, it’s a hit.
May 25th - Hypermiling
I hit my first bullseye on my 6th post. Several of the domain names I posted are now registered. The Google search results have exploded. Articles about this new trend have made front page of just about every news site worth a lick. I drive about 150 miles a day and I’ve run into a few (frustrating) hypermilers on the road.
- #1 blog, according to Technorati, Huffington Post reports on hypermiling.
- CleanMPG.com has been bombarded with visitors.
- Reported by NY Times.
- Reported by NPR.
- The LA Times talks about the hypermiling trend.
- Excellent car site Edmunds reports on hypermilers.
- Washington Post has adventures in hypermiling.
- I’ve received loads of organic traffic looking for hypermiling keywords.
- This all just WEEKS after my claim that hypermiling would be the next big thing.
June 1st - Astronomy Trend
I was dead on. But this was an easy one that many saw coming. Still, there has been some big news in just 20 days since my post.
- Ice discovered on Mars, from Wired.
- CNN reports on Google’s race to the moon.
- A new Japanese company is selling weddings in space.
- Popular Mechanics article on how big business is ready to spend money on space.
- This Rueters article focuses on a Japans new project to search for alien life.
June 13th - Personal Solar Power
Again, this one wasn’t very difficult to predict. There have been numerous solar power reports in the news, most notably:
- CleanTechnica.com reports that 10% of the U.S. will be on solar energy by 2025.
- The Solar Bag reported by EcoGeek.
- EcoGeek also reported on the solar briefcase.
June 10th - Lego is back!
This trend is here to stay for a long time. With several of the top blogs being techie blogs (or having tech sections), Lego will always be there.
- On Gizmodo, a video of Lego Stormtroopers.
- Official Lego Death Star, As reported on Gizmodo, BoingBoing and many other sites. OMG! $400!
- The Lego snacks from my list was reported by NetworkWorld.
- Lego business cards used by Lego employees, from Gizmodo.
- [I had to add this] Amazing huge Space Shuttle set. (See Astronomy trend)
June 8th - 80’s Retro
Aside from the obvious Legos, other 80’s hits are in the news:
- Mr Potato Head crosses over to other 80’s hits.
- Rubik’s Cube alarm clock from Make.
June 7th - Zeppelins
This hasn’t hit any big sites yet, but has been reported on smaller sites.
- AirShipWorld reports on the Zeppelin NT.
June 6th - Untooning
- Pixeloo’s newest untoon is Niko Bellic of Grand Theft Auto fame. This one he did on commission for big media: Playstation Magazine UK.
June 5th - DeLoreans
I think this one will get bigger and bigger as the year goes on, especially when they start rolling off the assembly line.
- The NY Times talks about the DeLorean.
- The DeLorean car show is happening right now!
June 4th - Virtual Mannequin
I said that it will hit the U.S. soon, I was wrong; it’s already here.
- Mashable reports on StyleShake, a site where you can design and try on clothes.
May 30th - Daytrips
As long as gas prices are up, these will remain popular.
- Affordable daytrips, from Readers Digest.
- Here in Houston, there have been many commercials on the radio for local scooter dealers.

Geodomainers Should Spy Fortune’s Articles For Domain Names
In a previous post, I emphasized how authoritative sites reinforce trends. When it comes to business and money, you can’t get much more authoritative than CNN Money/Fortune Magazine, who recently released their top 6 real estate bargains. This article was aimed at those looking for retirement homes.
What’s great about this short list is that they also mention adjacent small cities and neighborhoods in which to check out, giving even more material for geodomainers. The list:
- Miami
- Las Vegas
- Phoenix
- San Diego
- Tampa
- Denver
If you can get one of these cities, or neighboring cities, with a good real estate keyword tagged on, you should be able to monetize it.
Remember, “realtor” and “realty” “realtors” are trademarked, so stay away from them.
Update:
Thanks to Dennis H, he pointed out that “realty” was in fact NOT trademarked.
