Neal Voron of Fractional Domaining Blog Interviews… Me?
Neal Voron of Fractional Domaining Blog has posted an interview with yours truly. It is a four part series; you can view part 1 here. If you wanted to know a little bit more about how I research trends and apply them to domaining then this is a must read.
While you are there, be sure to read up on fractional domaining. Not familiar with it? From Neal’s blog:
[Domainers can] decide to purchase a small fraction of many premium domains rather than 100 percent of fewer domains, thus spreading his or her risk/reward potential while associating with other co-owners who each bring their own knowledge, experience, skills, and resources to the venture(s).
Obviously any domainer, amateur or veteran, can take advantage of this strategy. But I believe this is something that newer domainers should take a moment and strongly consider. By purchasing a fraction of a domain, you can team up with veterans and learn so much from them. Now, I’ll be honest and say that this isn’t from experience as I have not participated in this strategy yet. But it’s something I believe works and will try in the near future.
And if this interests you, then you should probably check out his Fractional GeoDomaining group over at GeoDomainer.com.
Thanks Neal!

A Recap Of Past Articles Shows TrendDomaining.com Knows Its Trends
I suppose this is a ‘toot your own horn’ type of post. I want to use my accuracy to show why TrendDomaining.com is worth reading. This blog is just one month old, and judging trend predictions after just one month isn’t entirely ideal. But I think I hit a few bullseyes here. Below is a list of news articles from authority sites that strongly support my trend predictions AFTER I made them. Most of these articles are from strong authority sites.
Sites like BoingBoing, Mashable, Gizmodo, Digg, Wired and Rueters are considered mainstream news on the internet. The NY Times and LA Times are strong both in print and on the net. If something hits the front page on any of these sites, it’s a hit.
May 25th - Hypermiling
I hit my first bullseye on my 6th post. Several of the domain names I posted are now registered. The Google search results have exploded. Articles about this new trend have made front page of just about every news site worth a lick. I drive about 150 miles a day and I’ve run into a few (frustrating) hypermilers on the road.
- #1 blog, according to Technorati, Huffington Post reports on hypermiling.
- CleanMPG.com has been bombarded with visitors.
- Reported by NY Times.
- Reported by NPR.
- The LA Times talks about the hypermiling trend.
- Excellent car site Edmunds reports on hypermilers.
- Washington Post has adventures in hypermiling.
- I’ve received loads of organic traffic looking for hypermiling keywords.
- This all just WEEKS after my claim that hypermiling would be the next big thing.
June 1st - Astronomy Trend
I was dead on. But this was an easy one that many saw coming. Still, there has been some big news in just 20 days since my post.
- Ice discovered on Mars, from Wired.
- CNN reports on Google’s race to the moon.
- A new Japanese company is selling weddings in space.
- Popular Mechanics article on how big business is ready to spend money on space.
- This Rueters article focuses on a Japans new project to search for alien life.
June 13th - Personal Solar Power
Again, this one wasn’t very difficult to predict. There have been numerous solar power reports in the news, most notably:
- CleanTechnica.com reports that 10% of the U.S. will be on solar energy by 2025.
- The Solar Bag reported by EcoGeek.
- EcoGeek also reported on the solar briefcase.
June 10th - Lego is back!
This trend is here to stay for a long time. With several of the top blogs being techie blogs (or having tech sections), Lego will always be there.
- On Gizmodo, a video of Lego Stormtroopers.
- Official Lego Death Star, As reported on Gizmodo, BoingBoing and many other sites. OMG! $400!
- The Lego snacks from my list was reported by NetworkWorld.
- Lego business cards used by Lego employees, from Gizmodo.
- [I had to add this] Amazing huge Space Shuttle set. (See Astronomy trend)
June 8th - 80’s Retro
Aside from the obvious Legos, other 80’s hits are in the news:
- Mr Potato Head crosses over to other 80’s hits.
- Rubik’s Cube alarm clock from Make.
June 7th - Zeppelins
This hasn’t hit any big sites yet, but has been reported on smaller sites.
- AirShipWorld reports on the Zeppelin NT.
June 6th - Untooning
- Pixeloo’s newest untoon is Niko Bellic of Grand Theft Auto fame. This one he did on commission for big media: Playstation Magazine UK.
June 5th - DeLoreans
I think this one will get bigger and bigger as the year goes on, especially when they start rolling off the assembly line.
- The NY Times talks about the DeLorean.
- The DeLorean car show is happening right now!
June 4th - Virtual Mannequin
I said that it will hit the U.S. soon, I was wrong; it’s already here.
- Mashable reports on StyleShake, a site where you can design and try on clothes.
May 30th - Daytrips
As long as gas prices are up, these will remain popular.
- Affordable daytrips, from Readers Digest.
- Here in Houston, there have been many commercials on the radio for local scooter dealers.
