Geodomains Can Be Pulled From Kiplinger’s Best Cities Of 2008
Kiplinger has published their best cities of 2008 to live, work and play. From the article “we sought places with strong economies and abundant jobs, plus reasonable living costs and plenty of fun things to do.”
Kiplinger has been one of the top business websites (and magazines) for quite a while. Each one of these cities has a population above 400k; so if you’re looking to invest in some geodomains, it wouldn’t hurt to do some domain mining with these.
4 Niches Affected By Gas Prices That You Never Thought Of
With no end in sight to the gas crisis, there are many opportunities to fill that hole in your wallet. While there are obvious solutions like hybrids and hypermiling, there are some hidden niches that you may not have thought of.
- Scooters
Bicycles and motorcycles are an obvious answer, but scooter sales are erupting, as reported in many local newspapers. For a price less than a down payment on a car, you can own a 75 MPG chick magnet. As far as geodomains are concerned, a scooter site would succeed for just about any location. But places with year round scooter-weather, such as Cali or Florida, could really hit it off. - Locking Gas Caps
It’s not a surprise that gasoline theft is on the rise, as reported by The New York Post. There have been numerous reports of local governments ordering hundreds for their fleets. For a meager $15 you can protect your precious petrol. Take advantage of this summers top selling auto product. - Day Trips
MSNBC reports high fuel costs are taking a bite out of the travel industry, whether you’re driving or flying (not that you needed MSNBC to tell you that). Day trips are becoming increasingly popular, allowing families to avoid the gas and hotel costs of long road trips. If you can put up a mini-site with some unique content, there should be plenty of opportunity to capitalize on local events, attractions and campgrounds. - Light-rails
It can be argued that high gas prices are encouraging people to move to urban areas and abandoning the suburbs. A more immediate effect may be that those urban dwellers are beginning to turn to public transportation. Cities such as Houston are building (or have built) light-rails to cut down on traffic. Condos and apartments along the routes of these light-rails are in high demand. A mini-site mapping out the routes of the light-rails could take advantage of countless opportunities including real estate, restaurants and tourism.
I’m just waiting to be told that gas prices are going up due to the cost of gasoline needed to transport… gasoline.
New Green Term Perfect for Domains, Mini-Sites
The whole green/environment niche has been big for quite a while now. This trend has produced many domains and profits for domainers and site developers, and it will for many days to come. It’s really hard to find secrets and available domains here.
Enter: Hypermiling.
Hypermilers are defined by Wikipedia as “drivers who exceed the estimated fuel efficiency on their vehicles by modifying their driving habits.” And in the past month this term has exploded, as seen on Google Trends. As gas prices continue to soar, this term should ease into everyday vocabulary the same way ‘hybrid’ has.
This would be an ideal topic for a mini-site, another upcoming trend. Write four or five unique articles, put them on a Drupal, Joomla or Wordpress installation with some Adsense/affiliate links and let it sit.
Breaking out my trusty Domain Research Tool, I found the following available domains:
Top 6 Reasons Why Domainers Should Read Top 10 Lists
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, Top 10 lists are a staple in today’s blogs and social networks. As a domainer, it may not be a good idea to be so quick to dismiss them.
So here is a non-watered down Top 10 list of why domainers should read top 10 lists:
6- Authoritative sites reinforce trends.
If the list was written or published by an authority on the subject, it can be highly influential no matter how accurate it is. When Forbes publishes it’s Top 10 Places to Buy Foreclosed Homes, you can count on it. You should always do your homework to verify information, but even if Charlotte isn’t the top place to buy a foreclosed home, Forbes has reinforced the trend.
5- Popular sites reinforce trends.
When Time publishes their 50 Top 10 Lists of 2007, you can bet that every one of those lists is getting tons of traffic. Traffic that, perhaps subliminally, feels Time has already vetted these sites\lists in some way. Time is reinforcing any actual or perceived trends with their authoritative endorsement.
4- They predict future trends.
People love predicting the future. You can find many posts like the Top 10 Upcoming Movies Based on Video Games. With monstrous franchises like Metroid, Warcraft, Street Fighter and Castlevania being adapted, could this replace superheroes as the next movie trend?
3- Blogs and social networks are not only a breeding ground for these lists, they provide additional info.
People love to add their two cents to Top 10 lists. This, at times, reveals much more than a top 10. The game movie post from #4 made the front page on Digg, where we learn that Splinter Cell, Assassins Creed, Gears of War, God of War, Mech Warrior, Mortal Combat, Soul Calibur and Prince of Persia are all being put on the silver screen. Not only does this reinforce the trend implied in the list, it can provide additional new ideas for niches.
2- They are a geodomain goldmine.
Some feel that geodomains are more than just a trend. You can find an outrageous amount of domains from geographical lists: Family beaches, tech towns, public golf courses, health retreats, music cities, home life, investing and places you got to see. You can pluck scores of geo+keyword domains from these lists alone.
1- They provide an endless supply of current and future niche ideas.
Whether the list consists of current things or anticipated things, you can get a niche idea from just about any of them. Gadgets, travel, technology, beauty and food; niches within niches. They are endless! Whether you are just flipping domains, creating turnkey sites, building BANS sites or fully developing, top 10 lists can provide you with an arsenal of information.
